There is a scam reported on Amazon about these ‘callers’ try to get you a refund. This is a scam.

Some tips on spotting scammers:

1. If you get a call from someone who asks to take control of your computer – hang up – It’s a Scam
2. If you get asked to transfer money – Don’t – It’s a scam.
3. If you get a suspect email pertaining to ‘have control’ / ‘Have video of you’ / ‘want bitcoins’ – Junk them – It’s a Scam.

If in ANY DOUBT about any call / email then talk to someone who knows what is what.

Contact your developers if you are unsure.

You may have noticed that on your browser top left corner, there is a grey ‘crossed out’ padlock when you browse websites. This is telling you that the information sent to you and from you is not encrypted, and thus could be intercepted by malicious 3rd parties. This will appear when you are on a page that is asking you for a ‘PASSWORD’ for instance.

When you go to a page where you enter your Credit Card details you should always see a green padlock indicating all is encrypted. Google is on a mission to make all website traffic encrypted (or SSL as it is known) and has incorporated this into it’s ranking algorithms.

SSL Certificates used to be expensive and have to be renewed annually. On our servers we use the free ‘Lets’ Encrypt’ Certificates for our clients to use on their websites. We recently sent out a promotional email to all our website owners, who were not SSL yet, offering to convert them for just £50+VAT. If you have not taken up this offer yet, we encourage you to do so by getting in touch with support@website-hosting.solutions.

You need to make sure your website is up to date with the latest version of these platforms and all plugins & Modules are patched. For WordPress you can easily do this in ADMIN, whose Dashboard will tell you what needs updating. If this appears a bit daunting then call your developers in to quote you on these works.

The last thing you want is a hacked website that your Host takes down for delivering malicious content. I also expect your customer may not like it either.

You can download the ‘Media Creation Tool’ from here which can then be run to do the upgrade. You need to make sure that all your programs are closed and that your computer is plugged in. Set it running, answer a few questions, and then leave it overnight.
