Are you running WordPress on your website?

Make sure you are keeping up to date to the latest version of WordPress. The company is constantly updating it’s core code to prevent hacking, so you need to make sure your site is up to date. You can easily tell if you need to update by logging into your Admin, where it will tell you.

Contact your developers if you are unsure.

Encrypt your website traffic

You may have noticed that on your browser top left corner, there is a grey ‘crossed out’ padlock when you browse websites. This is telling you that the information sent to you and from you is not encrypted, and thus could be intercepted by malicious 3rd parties. This will appear when you are on a page that is asking you for a ‘PASSWORD’ for instance.

When you go to a page where you enter your Credit Card details you should always see a green padlock indicating all is encrypted. Google is on a mission to make all website traffic encrypted (or SSL as it is known) and has incorporated this into it’s ranking algorithms.

SSL Certificates used to be expensive and have to be renewed annually. On our servers we use the free ‘Lets’ Encrypt’ Certificates for our clients to use on their websites. We recently sent out a promotional email to all our website owners, who were not SSL yet, offering to convert them for just £50+VAT. Worldwide attack on Windows Systems

The recent news of cyber attacks may well affect your system. If you are running Windows XP you are advised to NOT connect the machine to your Network. You must also ensure that your later versions of Windows are fully updated.

Microsoft have been encouraging the users of their Windows 7 & 8 platforms to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. If you haven’t done this yet then consider it now. Make sure you have backed up all your important documents and emails on to an external drive.

You can download the ‘Media Creation Tool’ from here which can then be run to do the upgrade. You need to make sure that all your programs are closed and that your computer is plugged in. Set it running, answer a few questions, and then leave it overnight.

There are a couple of very nice features you may want to explore:

Set the Start Screen to Full. Click here to see how to do it.
Click Start and then just type something to look for and see how ‘suggestion’ box pops up!
