Many clients have contacted me regarding connection issues with their BT Broadband.
Early Jan 2017 BT have suffered what appears to be severe issues with their DNS Servers. What these DNS machines do is ‘find’ the location of the computer that is running a website or email account you are trying to reach from your Device. Since the BT DNS Machine is not working you get a connection error ‘page not found’ / ‘problem connecting’ etc etc.
The problem has occurred in the evenings. If you get a connection then Google ‘How to change my DNS Settings’ and change from default to 8.8.8.8 will help.

You may be aware that there is a cyber war going on involving hackers and developers. The hackers are always one step ahead and continually attempt, and succeed to hack websites built on the WordPress, Joomla or Drupal platforms to name a few.

You need to make sure your website is up to date with the latest version of these platforms and all plugins & Modules are patched. For WordPress you can easily do this in ADMIN, whose Dashboard will tell you what needs updating. If this appears a bit daunting then call your developers in to quote you on these works.

The last thing you want is a hacked website that your Host takes down for delivering malicious content. I also expect your customer may not like it either.

Many people are forwarding email from their website Contact Forms to other addresses like @gmail.com. If you are doing this just check that the ‘forwarding’ still works!

You may be aware that over 85% of all email now crossing the internet is SPAM. As a result your own and many ISPs are fighting to keep genuine email flowing by enforcing their own rules to reject potential spam. These rules very across all ISPs and so you need to check their policies to make sure email is getting to you.

A simple test is to send an email to your website address from your own address and see if the ‘forwarding’ works.
